The Mei Zen Acupuncture Facelift is a special technique. The superficial dermal layers respond to the needle insertions as ‘trauma’. Just as the original trauma caused an increase in the presence of lymph and blood, the acupuncture needle insertions create an increase response. The results and the recoveries were significant. Mei Zen practitioners use this very protocol. The needles we use are very small, thin and of course disposable. In this facial Mei Zen application, the inserted needles stimulate local skin-layer circulation and the production of collagen which in turn enhance the collagen/elastin web under the dermis, fill out fine and deep lines, and give firmness to the skin with a healthy, glowing complexion.

Why choose Cosmetic Acupuncture over other procedures?
Surgery, laser resurfacing, injectable therapies and other ‘non-invasive’ procedures that are used to create a youthful appearance only address the ‘outside’ you. They can be expensive and they carry significant risks.
A Mei Zen Facelift is an excellent alternative. It is far less expensive. It is safe and virtually painless. It has no side effects, no extended recovery time, no swelling or discoloration, no risk of disfigurement. There is no real trauma and if it does not suit you, you can stop with no ill effects. Who should not have Cosmetic Acupuncture? There are various cautions including thyroid problems, blood disorders, damaged blood vessels, hypersensitivity, hypertensive disease and those with pacemakers. It may still be possible however to use facial massage and some alternative techniques in such circumstances.
What if I've had Botox? Cosmetic Acupuncture will maintain the effectiveness of Botox and save you several (or all!) injections during the year.
Is it painful? Will it hurt?
The procedure is much less painful (to almost not painful at all) than most of today’s sought-after skin treatments. The needles are tiny. Special ‘hand’ needles. Insertion is shallow. Just into the dermal layer of the skin. We see clients fall into a restorative meditative sleep-like state more often than not during the time of each treatment.
What is the course of treatment? How long does it take?
A course of treatment is 10 to 12 sessions done 2 to 3 times a week. One session takes about an hour and a half. With deep wrinkles, the procedure can take up to 8 weeks. Individuals respond differently depending upon their constitution, age and lifestyle. Visible results can often be seen after one or two treatments and will be consistent after 6 to 7 sessions. Once the procedure is completed, the changes and improvements can last to up to 5 years! Maintenance is recommended – generally, a ‘tune-up’ treatment every 3 or 4 months.
Will I need special products to take care of my face?
No. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture works without any special products. But of course, use good quality skin care products and have a daily facial routine that keeps your skin clean and moisturized. Results will last longer!

A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases of women treated with Cosmetic Acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment. Before going through the Mei Zen treatments, I had investigated some of the popular treatments that are out there today. I was not thrilled by the invasive nature of some of the treatments, the expense associated with the available treatments, and the short-term benefits associated with the treatments. Having had a great deal of success with acupuncture for other issues and having researched a bit about it on the Internet, I decided to give Mei Zen a try. I am really glad I did. About half way through the treatments, I saw noticeable tightening of the skin on my neck.
